Inter Milan Lead Italian Serie A With 2-1 Win Over Napoli
Italian Serie A league leaders Inter Milan improved their points standing with a 2-1 away win against Napoli at the Giuseppe Meazza.
On the 20th minute, Inter Milan were able to break through when Inter’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic cuts through the Napoli defense by the face of the box and plays through the ball to Inter Milan forward Julio Cruz, who sidefoots the ball past Napoli keeper Gennaro Iezzo.
On the 36th minute, Inter Milan’s Argentinian striker Julio Cruz adds another goal to his tally as he beats the offside trap and chests down a wonderful lob from Dejan Stankovic into the Napoli area. Without any defenders, Julio Cruz was able to pick his spot and fired a wicked left-footer to beat Iezzo to give Inter Milan a 2-0 advantage.
Inter Milan could have extended their advantage through the efforts of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Julio Cruz, who was looking for a hat trick as a birthday present since the Argentinian stiker jsut recently turned 33. However, no more goals came for Inter Milan, and Napoli was able to draw a goal back in the 84th minute when Napoli’s Roberto Sosa was able to head in a cross from team mate Marek Hamsik past Inter Milan keeper Julio Cesar.
Inter Milan’s win gives them a total of 17 points to lead the Italian Serie A championship. Following Inter Milan is Juventus with 14 points, and AS Roma also with 14 points.
Inter Milan’s next Italian Serie A match will be on October 21 when they visit Reggina. On October 23, Inter Milan will be visitors to CSKA Moscow for a UEFA Champions League group stage match.
