Real Madrid: La Liga Championship Form In Win Against Recreativo
The Santiago Bernabeu is the home pitch of Spanish La Liga Champions Real Madrid, and just recently the stadium was packed with Real Madrid supporters who cheered on Los Galacticos as they faced Recreativo de Huelva in a 2007-08 regular season Spanish La Liga match.
Real Madrid were able to produce two second-half goals from Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy and Argentinian forward Gonzalo Higuain to give Real Madrid a 2-0 home win against Recreativo. Real Madrid collects the full three points from the match, and they maintain their position as number one in the Spanish La Liga with 19 points, two ahead of Barcelona who have 17.
The match seemed to be headed for a stalemate with both Recreativo and Real Madrid not being able to convert their scoring opportunities into goals. It wasn’t until the 73rd minute when Ruud van Nistelrooy was able to break the deadlock when Real Madrid captain Raul clipped a neat pass into Ruud van Nistelrooy’s path at the edge of the area. Ruud van Nistelrooy had perfect placement on his low strike to beat Recreativo keeper Stefano Sorrentino.
Just before the final whistle, Real Madrid substitute Gonzalo Higuain scored the second goal after a fine through-ball from Real Madrid midfielder Guti found Higuain onside and with much open space. Recreativo keeper Stefano Sorrentino had to charge and challenge Higuain as the last line of defense, but Higuain was able to round Sorrentino and steered the ball into the open net to bring the score to 2-0 in favor of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid’s next Spanish La Liga match will be on October 21, following a one week break due to matches to be played for the UEFA Euro 2008 Qualifiers this October 13 and October 17. Real madrid will be visitors to Espanyol at Montujic Stadium.
On October 24, three days ollowing the match with Espanyol, the Spanish La Liga Champions Real Madrid will be hosting Greece Super League champions Olympiacos for a UEFA Champions League group stage match.
