Spanish La Liga champions Real Madrid looked worn out when they visited the Estadio Jose Zorila on Sunday to face Real Valladolid for the 4th matchday of the 2007-08 Spanish Primera Liga season. Real Valladolid were last season’s Segunda Liga champions, which earned them the opportunity to join the Primera Liga this season. On paper, Real Madrid definitely looked the better side, and their recent football performance made them huge favorites to win the match against Real Valladolid.
However, the Segunda Liga champions Real Valladolid put on an inspired performance in order to prove their metal against the Primera Liga champions Real Madrid. In this champion vs. champion match, it was Real Valladolid who took control at the start as Real Madrid struggled to find a consistent flow to their game. The intimidating Santiago Bernabeu, home pitch of Spanish La Liga Champions Real Madrid, was the stage for the 2nd leg of the Spanish Super Cup between Real Madrid and Sevilla FC.
Sevilla came into this match with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, and Real Madrid needed to put in 2 unanswered goals if they were to win The Spanish Super Cup. The supporters of Real Madrid came in full force, and cheered their team on.
In fact, it was Madrid who led the attack early on in the first half with chances from Raul who dribbled past two defenders, but his attempt managed only to graze the post. Pepe - debuting for Madrid - had a powerful shot from outside the box which missed the target by inches. Madrid striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy also had one of the best chances for Los Merengues, but his shot from outside the box sailed past the post…[read more]
